The Uruguay Government officially announced on December 29th 2008 the successful candidate of the International Public Tender for the development and management of the new Tax Free Shopping program.

Fintrax Group Holdings Ltd was favorably selected against two International companies and one local bidder as the exclusive operator for the new VAT refund program in Uruguay.

Tax Free Shopping in Uruguay

The Government of Uruguay passed a law in 2006 permitting the refunding of VAT to tourists and made a decision to publish their International Public Tender in June of last year.

According to the approved regulation, foreign visitors and non-resident Uruguayans will be entitled to receive a VAT refund on purchases made during their visit and which are to be exported outside the country. Merchandise must be produced in Uruguay and tourists must validate their refund form with a customs stamp upon departure from the International airports or ports of Uruguay.
