Using Dynamic Currency Conversion
How does the currency conversion work?
The currency conversion is available at participating merchants only. When your card is swiped for payment, the credit card terminal will determine if your card is an eligible card for currency conversion. If it is, you will be offered the choice of paying in the local currency or in your usual billing currency. If you decide to pay in your billing currency, the receipt will print the merchant currency and the billing currency amounts. The transaction will be forwarded to your issuing bank and you will be debited the exact billing currency amount as stated on the receipt. The receipt will show the exchange rate used for the conversion. If you select to pay in the merchant amount, the transaction will be forwarded to your issuing bank in the merchants currency and your issuing bank will convert using applicable exchange rates. You will see the final billing amount when you receive your credit card statement.

What happens if I say ‘Yes’ to the currency conversion?
By accepting the currency conversion, you have opted to settle your bill in your home currency. You will be asked to either enter your PIN number or sign the receipt to confirm the transaction. The receipt will state the local currency amount, your final billing currency amount and the exchange rate. The exact amount in your home currency as stated on the receipt will be the amount you will see on your credit card statement when you return home. There are no other fees involved so the price on the receipt is the price you pay.

What happens if I say ‘No’ to currency conversion?
By declining the currency conversion, you have opted to settle your bill in Euro. You will be asked to either enter your PIN or sign the receipt to confirm the transaction. The receipt will now state only the Euro amount. The transaction is forwarded to your bank who will convert the Euro amount and you will know the final billing amount when you receive your statement.

What are the benefits of the currency conversion system?
You have the choice of whether you pay in your familiar home currency or the local currency.
You know exactly how much you are paying for goods and services while abroad.
There are no hidden fees as the conversion margin, the exchange rate and the home and foreign currency amounts are all stated on the receipt.
The competitive foreign exchange rates applied to the transaction are comparable to those used by the Card Issuers, Visa and Mastercard.
You have the certainty of knowing the exact exchange rate used and are therefore not exposed to the potential risk of fluctuating foreign exchange rates.
Greater peace of mind and certainty in knowing the exact price in your home currency.
For business travellers, expense claims are simplified and less time consuming as you know the exact cost of your overseas expenses.

Yes. If the receptionist/shop assistant does not automatically hand you a receipt, you should ask for one.

How are the exchange rates calculated?
The exchange rate is taken from the Reuters daily rate as informed to us by our partner bank and a margin is added before the exchange rates are issued to terminals. The margin is comparable to other foreign exchange transactions and ensures that there are always competitive rates available on the Fintrax terminal. The exchange rate, the source of the rate and the margin are printed on every receipt ensuring that this competitive system is easy to use and clear to understand.
